  • Gong xi, gong xi!! :D

Happy Chinese 'Niu' Year!! :D Man, I love saying that ;) Too bad it could only work every 12 years.... I got a huge kick out of making the headband/nose haha... (much too gleefully for a 27 year old, probably :P)

I have been pretty busy, but I'll admit that I was surprised myself when I saw when it was that I last posted on xanga (half a year already?!? o.O). Life's pretty good, freelance work is picking up, so I've been doing 4 rush jobs back-to-back (my brother, after me making a passing comment on not being able to pull back-to-back all nighters anymore: "Welcome back to college life." haha...). My brother just finished his masters!! Woohooo!! This is the kid who got all crestfallen when at elementary found out that he still had 15 plus years to go regarding school :) So proud of him. Sister's also on her last leg of greencard process, so am happy for her as well :)

On a side note, I've been trying to hunt down which one of you had posted a picture of a certain statue (if I remember the post correctly, said person saw it at a hotel lobby?). I actually went to each suspected person's xanga and browsed through Every. Single. Log. :P So yeah, if you happen to stumble across a slew of footprints from Indonesia in the past few weeks, no need to get alarmed. That was most likely me.

Anywho, I couldn't find the post (or person), so if you know it's you, please send me a note via comments or inbox.

    Seriously.

Send me a message ;) hehe....

The statue that was posted (via help from Google):

http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8"> name="ProgId" content="Word.Document"> name="Generator" content="Microsoft Word 11"> name="Originator" content="Microsoft Word 11"> (I found out that this particular statue is called a 'yogi', and though the 'yogi' statues come in various postures, they have very similar built).

  • Rules of the English Language

Found this while rummaging through files to update my portfolio. My linguistics professor handed it out to class one day. Thought some of you might enjoy this

    --------

Now here are some rules for better English.

    1. Avoid alliteration. Always.
    2. Avoid cliches like the plague. (They're old hat).
    3. Eschew ampersands & abbreviations, etc.
    4. Parenthetical remarks (however relevant) are unnecessary.
    5. It is wrong to ever split an infinitive.
    6. Contractions aren't necessary.
    7. Foreign words and phrases are verboten, or at least not apropos.
    8. One should never generalize, after all, there are no absolutes (which reminds me, never give advice).
    9. Eliminate quotations. As Ralph Waldo Emerson once said: "I hate quotations. Tell me what you know."
    10. Comparisons are as bad as cliches.
    11. Don't be redundant; don't use more words than are necessary: it's highly superfluous.
    12. Be more or less specific.
    13. Understatement is always the absolute est.
    14. Exaggeration is a billion times worse than understatement.
    15. One word sentences? Eliminate.
    16. Analogies in writing are like feathers on a snake.
    17. The passive voice is to be avoided.
    18. Go around the bar at high noon to avoid colloquialisms. They are often as dry as eatin' flour with a spoon.
    19. Even if a mixed metaphor rings, it should be derailed.
    20. Who needs rhetorical questions?

    ------

    BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

On a side note, I checked my footprints, and this week has been more international than usual: Hongkong, Russia, Germany, and France. Go figure.

ps: update on internship vs visa: I decided to forgo the internship despite the chance I might end up not getting the visa at all. Will keep you all posted.

  • Decisions... decisions....

Sooo.... I got great news which is turning into a conundrum :

I just got an email offering a great internship opportunity

    BUT

it happens to coincide with the family vacation plan to visit sis and bro in the US

The internship is unpaid (though I get minimum pocket money), and I would basically be worked like a dog and get ping-ponged to do menial tasks between the 1st and 2nd assistant director. But I will get opportunities to ask questions and learn tons working the field.

The thing is the internship runs from June through September, and we were planning to go to the US on August 30th for three weeks. Granted, there's no guarantee I'll get my visa, which means technically I could still do the internship if it so happens, but there's no way I could say, "Let me apply for my visa, if it doesn't go through, I'll take up your generous offer of the internship!" Doesn't work timing-wise (and work-ethically) since internship starts in June.

I will get other internship opportunities, so if I decline, it's not the end of the world, but if I decline and my visa doesn't come out? Damn... that would be a shame. I guess I'm being greedy and want both the internship and meeting my family Us five haven't been together all present in one place since my brother's graduation in 2005!!! And my dad rarely manages to get a 3 weeks straight vacation!!

Long winded paragraphs up there, I know. Any inputs?

About Me

  • An imp (without the extra 'p' upfront, thank you very much haha) with nefarious schemes to conquer the world, a nerd, a prankster, a thinker, a dreamer with a healthy hearty appetite that will try anything on the menu, a bonafide procrastinator (how I ever managed to graduate with a BA in English from the UofA as a Wildcat alumni is still a well-shrouded mystery :P ), a soon to be (hopefully!) radio DJ, a (wannabe) writer, a sister, a hyperball-energizer-bunny. Hmm... yep, that's about it! :D

Pulse

  • I need to set aside time for new narcissistic pic essays (just noticed I've used the word "narcissistic" 3-4 times in 2 days haha)
  • Deadline is looming near.... Got to revise the storyboard, but things are looking up (though I always look up. I'm short :P )
  • HAHAHA!!! Saw a Facebook Valentines commercial on xanga. How funny is that?!? LOL
